I'm not sure you all realize what a gift you have here. You have all the amenities of a resort community without the stifling traffic, higher taxes, higher cost of living for everyday items and food, ever increasing rate of crime and congestion not to mention the depositing to tons of trash on the streets and parks per year. I've lived in resort towns and seen them all crumble in to a mass resembling urban blight. It's not pretty. I've seen the best intention for creating the glitz and glamor turn sour and cause soaring real estate prices that force the 'real' residents to the far outskirts of the city.
On the other hand, with a little effort, Palacios can shine like a gem once again for the residents that just put the little extra effort in to it.
It's a matter of prospective, I admit. I'm new to the community and have hope to see it become what it once was. A thriving 'small town' community that is as pleasing to the residents that call it their own as it is to the visitor.

I have to agree with the influx of cash being needed. Since I started this thread I have had some health issues and my job situation changed. I have gotten the health issues under control and hopefully can make contact with some of the people I had been speaking with before.

I had begun contact with the Palacios Economic Development Corp before Mike Sherrod left. I have since spoken with the Matagorda County Economic Development people. As I suspected, they wanted to know why I would consider wanting to attempt to start something in Palacios instead of Bay City. Isn't Palacios in Matagorda county also? It was the last time I checked.

I would still need to find a financial partner to get a project of the scope I am considering started. I do not want to go into detail about the plans other than it would employ 25 to 30 Palacios citizens and produce cash flow of several million dollars a year and provide something for the whole family. It would also prove beneficial for the new residents who will be moving into the old Camp Hulen development and bring in tourist traffic.

I am very encouraged for Palacios in the development work being done and the tax dollars, revenue and people that it will produce. My hopes are that I can obtain the funding necessary to get the project moving ahead. I have already received word from the University of Houston School of Business that it may take the project as a project for the school to help in obtaining grants and SBA support.

A business plan has been written and appears to be something that could work but it would take the full support of Palacios and the surrouning area to make it long term and successful.

If this can come together I will give it my best. If I cannot do it, it is not for lack of trying and holding onto a dream I have had for a long time.

My mother and her four sisters were raised in Collegeport and met my dad when he was stationed at Camp Hulen. She worked as a soda jerk at the old Palacios Drug downtown. They moved out of Palacios and moved to Rockford, Illinois where I was born. But we got back to Texas before I started school. We came to Palacios for vacation each year until my teen years. We always stayed at Mrs. Allens Courts until they were destroyed by Hurricane Carla in 1961. They were located where Palacios Realty is now.

Palacios has a place in my heart even though I have never lived there. I haved watched it over the years and desired some way that I could give something to the area and help the kids, who I believe could be the biggest winners of the project I would like to do. Keep me in your prayers and I will re-energize and make contact with the people I need to help me. If I can sell them on why Palacios is a good idea they have the wherewithall to provide the funding. Let's just hope I have not lost the salesmanship skills I have from the 23 years I had in high end BMW and Ferrari sales.
