I'm still here. I stopped posting, because, even though it shows 1500+ posts in my catagory, I see none of the topics except the last I started asking what happened. I would love to continue posting, but need the topics restored.

Good to see you are still out there. I was beginning to think something had happened to you.
I am still interested in attempting to do something in Palacios but the Matagorda County Economic Development office seems to think that Bay City is a better choice. I wondered about how it would work when they closed the Palacios Office. I am told that they would wonder why I would want to do something in Palacios as it would probably be doomed to failure because the people would not support it and do not make enough money. I believe Palacios future is showing great signs of having a real economic revival with the new housing developments and other businesses opening. What I would want to do would employ about 30 Palacians and generate a cashflow of roughly $1M per year. It is something that is really needed, especially for the youth and families. Oh well, I still need to secure some more financial backing as my job state changed a couple of years ago and put the brakes on what I was doing. I have some sources and am still searching for more so don't give up on me,,,,,,,yet........ |

That's interesting, considering the Palacios EDC is very much open for business. The county EDC's entered into a cooperative agreement headed by the Bay City director. I hope Bay City isn't using Palacios tax money to promote themselves and steer people away from here. There was serious concern of this happening when the decision was made not to replace the local EDC director. I encourage you to contact our local office or City Hall and make them aware of this.
Palacios will grow, whether it wants to or not. It's more a question of whether they embrace the inevitable and take steps to annex to the north in order to control that growth and preserve downtown, or if they continue to to live in denial, believing someone will come in here and pay for the infrastructure improvements that are required to provide usable realestate for commercial development. Experience says: build it and they will come. Unfortunately, our "planners" believe that if they wait long enough, someone will come and build it for us at that own expense. Business will only do that if they will get to make the rules, pay little or no taxes, and be free from unwanted restrictions knowing they can hold a workforce and community hostage. That is not the kind of business partner we need here. I encourage you to contact USDA and Rural Developement to see what grants might be available for your project. Hope to see you here soon. |
